This is when we view texts that we assume we dislike by the impression it promotes thus we tend to avoid accessing it. Furthermore a comparison is made between two texts and their characteristics. 6) List three ways genre is used by institutions or producers.

A: The three ways genre is used by institutions or producers are through production, attracting an audience and marketing texts. Within production there is always a set of rules and a plan to help them produce the film/TV series. This helps them as they don't have to come up with ideas on the spot and additionally produce similar films in a modern version and remove parts the audience dislike to create a better version. With attracting audiences many people tend to watch new TV series as after they finish one they look for others so they just watch new ones because they are new. This helps increase profit within the market and avoid failure. When trailers are shown online they reveal numerous aspects of the film to give indications of the genre such as a horror movie will include a scary theme tune consisting of horrific scenes. This thus raises expectations for the film as people would expect it to be terrifying with jump scares.

3) How can Schatz's theory of genre cycles be applied to the Superhero genre?

A: Schatz theory shows a dynamic in genre through a cycle . This starts with innovation which is the time when genre codes are established. This is when films started to use comic book characters and apply it to their movie in which this lead to other film producers using comic book characters. It then follows onto classical which is the time when conventions are set and repeated. This is when the superhero genre was at a classical stage and codes and conventions were consistently repeated. After classical is parody, which the time when the codes begin to feel a little clichéd and are mocked or undermined. This allowed the demographic to enjoy the funny nature of the genre and the awareness of it. It would intentionally make you not view the superhero in a serious manner. Finally, deconstruction is the time when the genre is played or experimented with. This is when technology has a huge effect that lead the innovation with special effects to make the movies seem more realistic.
