OSP assessment learner response

1) Type up your feedback in  full  (you don't need to write the mark and grade if you want to keep this confidential). WWW: Good grasp and discussion of theory. EBI: Under-developed answer for Q2 - needs more detail. 2) Read the  whole mark scheme for this assessment  carefully. Identify three potential points that you could have made in your essay for Question 1 (Shirky, audiences and producers). Teen Vogue’s shift to a more explicitly liberal promotion of feminist and identity politics reflects the movement feminist bloggers began in the mid-2000s. This is a great example of the influence some of the “billion new participants” Shirky talks of can influence the news agenda or change the direction of major, established media brands. Teen Vogue’s online presence still contains fashion and beauty but is a far cry from the vacuous teenage content that the first print edition contained in 2003. The Voice is a very typical newspaper website. In terms of conventions

1) What definitions are offered by the factsheet for ‘feminism ‘and ‘patriarchy’? Feminism is centered around featuring the power and suppressive nature of the male centric society.  Intersectionality is utilised to depict covering or crossing social characters and related frameworks of abuse, mastery or separation.  Patriarchy is male predominance over society in this circumstance, and women's activists consider this to be a restriction to ladies accepting indistinguishable treatment and advantages from their male partners. 2) Why did bell hooks publish her 1984 book ‘Feminist Theory: From Margin to Center’? She had distributed her book because of an absence of assorted variety inside the female development and contended that these different voices had been underestimated, being outside the primary collection of women's liberation. 3) What aspects of feminism and oppression are the focus for a lot of bell hooks' work? She challenged women's ac

Either viewed as objects/sexual appeal or damsels in distress. 2) What percentage of the video game audience is female? 42pc 3) What recent games have signalled a change in the industry and what qualities do the female protagonists offer? Tomb Raider; Horizon: Zero Dawn; Uncharted: The Lost Legacy; The Last of Us; Dragon Age: Inquisition and The Walking Dead. The qualities they have are strong, independent, intelligent, wilful and compassionate. 4) Do you agree with the idea that audiences reject media products if they feel they are misrepresented within them? I consent to an extent. I personally think that a portion of the group of onlookers have done this previously and will keep on doing as such. I likewise think that females were not targeted by game developers so I feel that there is another reason behind why they were dismissing media products. I consider some it comes down to the 'male look', the fro

Pengiun Supports BAME Bookshop Campaign With £15,000 https://www.voice-online.co.uk/article/penguin-supports-bame-bookshop-campaign-%C2%A315000 Penguin are helping an independent bookshop open a store featuring books focusing on BAME lead characters as in 20117 only 1pc of leads were of BAME origin. This story expresses the importance of having books representing a wide range of people for children to read and to 'better reflect society' as brand and communications director as Penguin Random House has said. I think this is an example of hard news as it uses the narrative of representations of BAME people in the media still being a huge issue in the community. Personal Identity is the main audience gratifications as parents can reflect that they want their children to read books that reflects them - their personality and values. This does reflect the values and ideologies of the website as it is focusing on issues affecting minorities.

ASOS' Best-Selling Styles of 2018 https://www.teenvogue.com/story/asos-best-selling-styles-2018 This is an example of soft news as it doesn't contain any useful information that may effect the audience. This article summaries the best selling outfits that ASOS sold during 2018. The article then lists different clothing pieces which are paired with statistics about their sales. This would appeal to a young Teen Vogue audience as they're likely to be interested in fashion and want to hear about all the latest outfits that the popular, online store has to offer.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Wore Suffragette White to Be Sworn Into Congress https://www.teenvogue.com/story/alexandria-ocasio-cortez-wore-suffragette-white-sworn-into-congress#intcid=recommendations_default-popular_ced268c7-7202-4296-b26b-551ce4ef0c90_cral-top1-2   This is an example of hard news. The article talks about how Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has become the youngest woman ever sworn into Congress on January 3, 2019. It spoke about what she wore, "a bright white suit, a color that was a symbol of the women's suffrage movement". This article is likely to appeal to a Teen Vogue audience as it reinforces the ideologies of the brand as it empowers woman and supports the women's suffrage movement. The audience are likely to be feminist and create personal relationships (uses and diversification) with the women mentioned in the article.

‘Shocking’ Lack Of Black Teachers In Bristol Schools https://www.voice-online.co.uk/career-education-article/%E2%80%98shocking%E2%80%99-lack-black-teachers-bristol-schools A BBC Documentary has found that out of the 1300 teachers in Brixton only 26 or 1.9pc are black. The article highlights how more needs to be done to encourage those of BAME origin to get into teaching so students can have role models  but also because Black Teachers were found to have been given stereotypical roles such as hosting Black History events - this appeared in a study released by the National Union of Teachers.  This is an example of hard news as it does show the continuing narrative of how those of BAME origin need to represented more in industries especially schools where students need role models. This is an example of personal identity as parents would want their children to have role models but also parents realising of how they were represented in schools. This does fit with the valu
